The Hotel Fort Des Moines is going to be a complete renovation of the existing 11 story high rise historic hotel that was originally built in 1918. The property opened in July 1919 and was built with concrete and clay tile structure. The exterior renovation will include new windows, roof, site-work and exterior masonry restoration. The interior will be renovated with new guestrooms on floors 3-11, and a extensive renovation to the basement and 1st and 2nd floors. This Project is pursing historic tax credits and includes protection and restoration of existing historic fabrics. Also the historic 2 story main lobby space is to be reopened by removing the existing infill construction that was added in the 1960’s. The project will also include new modernized elevators and new mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems throughout. The building size is 240,716 square foot and 290 guest rooms.
