For 75 years and throughout 4 generations Baxter Construction Company has remained adaptive, motivated, and responsive to our clients, subcontractors, employees, and their families. We will maintain this same level of integrity as we continue to navigate this unprecedented and fluid situation. At Baxter, we place the utmost importance on the health and safety of our employees, clients and business partners which is why we are adjusting our operations in accordance with the guidance of the CDC and local health officials to assist in stopping the spread of the novel coronavirus COVID-19.
We are taking this situation very seriously and understand that this is a challenging time for all organizations and communities but we also want to ensure you that Baxter is taking all necessary precautions while still operating in the field. Baxter is limiting all in-person contact as much as possible and shifting in-person meetings to take place virtually, leveraging the use of video and phone conferencing. We are also discouraging all business travel unless it is deemed critical and following the CDC guidelines for strict on-site cleanliness.
As a trusted building partner we still remain dedicated to our teams and their success through this period by maintaining working jobsites and hitting critical deadlines. If they have not already, within the next few days, our Project Managers will contact those of you that have on-going projects with Baxter Construction. We want to ensure that all channels of communication remain open.

TONIGHT on Des Moines local news channel 8-KCCI and channel 5-WOI…take a walk through Baxter Construction’s biggest historic restoration project to date! Originally constructed in 1919 the Hotel Fort Des Moines is undergoing a complete top to bottom renovation that will restore the heart of downtown Des Moines back to its original grandeur. “It truly feels great to be able to leave our company’s mark on such an important piece of Des Moines’ history”, stated Michael Baxter, 4th generation owner, “Baxter Construction could also not be more fortunate for the support and hard work that the local subcontractors have put into this project as well. Connection Bank and Insurance celebrated their grand opening at their official ribbon cutting ceremony in Burlington, Iowa. The Baxter Construction team that lead the project was there to help them celebrate their constructed vision!
We were honored to have the University of Northern Iowa Construction Management class come tour our jobsite. As a company we believe in growing leadership for the future and some of the best of the future came out from UNI to view our program and learn more outside of the classroom. It was a honor to host them on our site and we look forward to see where all of their talent leads.

As we gear up for the 71st annual Fort Madison Tri-State Rodeo we will again be hosting a special promotion giving away performance tickets specifically to those families in need. Each family member will get a ticket and a voucher. The tickets will be available for pickup at the Eichacker Community Action Center of Southeast Iowa located at: 3233 Avenue O, Fort Madison Iowa, 52627; their hours of operation are 8:00am to 4:30pm.

Dennis Faivre is a vital part of what makes Baxter Construction Company so successful. As the Manager of Preconstruction he is the key component to successfully planning, coordinating, and controlling a project from its inception to completion. Dennis works closely with the owner and the design team to ensure that projects are on the right path to an efficient and quality finished product. He was nominated and chosen for this award for many reasons including his unrelenting positive attitude, his kind and helping manner, his immense ability to effectively manage many projects at one time, his intelligence and his hard working and infallible personality. Dennis represents much of what Baxter Construction’s core values are made of and his dedication and loyalty is not easily matched.
Dennis graduated from Bradley University in 2009 with a Bachelors degree in Construction Management and joined Baxter Construction soon thereafter; first as a Project Administrator/Engineer then quickly moving up the ranks to the Manager of Preconstruction at the Des Moines office location. “When I had first met Dennis and learned he was a Bradley University graduate I knew right from the start he would be one of the ‘Best of the Best’ as Bradley is where my father Frank also graduated from”, stated Tony Baxter “Dennis has more than proven to truly be among the ‘Best of the Best’ you just do not get more solid than him”. As a member of Baxter Construction’s Leadership Team Dennis’ honest and upfront comments, concerns, and views are highly sought after. “No matter how much you put on his table you can always count on the honestly and accuracy of his work. I have so much trust in Dennis and confidence in what he tells me, he is very rare. I know that everyday he serves the best interest of the company and has my back always.”
Because of his dedication, vision and great work the company is kept moving forward in the right direction. Dennis characterizes Baxter’s mission and vision through his team work, positive approach, and leadership by his actions and examples. Baxter Construction Company is proud to again sponsor and partake in the 11th annual GIVE Foundation Charity Golf Tournament in Riverside, Iowa. “GIVE is a charity very dear to me as my own Father, a veteran of the Korean War, and I have spent priceless time together on the greens”, stated Tony Baxter. “The GIVE foundation operates with a higher purpose and that purpose is surrounded by people who share a passionate commitment to the success of the program. Great things have happened and continue to happen for the positive impact of our Veterans through GIVE and we are honored to be a part of that.”
Funded entirely by donations GIVE, Golf for Injured Veterans Everywhere, is a program and partnership of the Iowa VA Healthcare System of Iowa City, member professionals of the Iowa PGA Section, and the host Riverside Casino & Golf Resort. GIVE has served more than 500 men and women veterans, spanning service from World War II through Afghanistan; through a specialize golf curriculum that has formed a bond among families and both PGA Professionals alike. “Trustworthy, loyal, and dependable…words more often used in our Father’s generations to describe a man, but these are the words that first come to mind when I think of Bert Gould” –Michael Baxter
Robert Gould has been a Field Superintendent with Baxter Construction Company for over 20 years and he truly is an exemplary employee that defines our company’s mission, vision, and culture. He began his career with the company in 1996 working under both Frank and Tony Baxter. “Bert stopped by looking for work and I hired him that day, I knew right away that he was an honest man”, stated Frank Baxter, “He was always on time and his happy personality, dedication, and loyalty always meant so much to me, he has become a great friend. He first started as a concrete worker and I quickly moved him up to foreman. We are so blessed he stopped by that day, we are so lucky to have him”. As an adaptive employee Bert has grown along with the company; travelling nationally without hesitation from jobsite to jobsite to complete whatever needs done. Bert “always has your back” and his quality workmanship, good morale, and positive life outlook set him apart from the rest.
“Bert has been with me for over 20 years and has done it all without any question and while always looking out for my best interests”, said Tony Baxter, “No one will ever know how much a person like Bert means to a company until they are gone and we are never letting Bert go.” Bert Gould is also unique in that he is only one of 2 employees to have worked for 3 generations of Baxters. Michael Baxter recalls “From some of my earliest memories Bert was there, fixing my 8 year old footprints across a freshly poured slab on a jobsite…just as with everything he does for us today he had a smile on his face!”
An employee like Robert Gould is a rare find and we truly appreciate his years of service, his positive attitude in the face adversity, his unmistakable smile, and his solid Baxter Family core values. Baxter Construction is truly honored and proud to call Bert the ‘Employee of the Quarter’.
George Rashid is one of the top Senior Project Engineers at Baxter Construction and works on some of the company’s largest projects across the United States. George was nominated and chosen for this award because of his loyalty, and perseverance to his project, his team, and his company. “His hard work ethic and dedication to the Baxter Construction Family is what sets up George’s future to become one of the best in our industry,” stated Tony Baxter, President of Baxter Construction. “Most recently he has helped lead a very successful and beautiful senior housing facility through adversity in Texas and he is quickly moving up the company ladder.”
George graduated from ITT Technical Institute with an Architectural Drafting and Construction Management degree in 2012. “When George First came to Baxter Construction he started with washing and detailing vehicles and equipment in high school. He then decided to attend college and earn a Construction Management degree. He worked for us every day he could while still taking his classes and we hired him on as a Project Engineer the day he graduated”, state Tony.
George exemplifies the company’s Mission through his leadership that creates apparent excitement amongst his team, his jobsite, and his company. His unmistakable energy matched with his unwavering reliability makes George Rashid a rare find and a true joy to work with. Baxter Construction is proud to call George Rashid its first ‘Employee of the Quarter’.
The 10th annual DMACC CEO Golf Invitational was a huge success and we are excited to announce it was their biggest year yet, a record breaking amount of $450,000.00 was raised for student scholarships! After being challenged by Baxter to meet a $400,000 goal the DMACC Foundation team pulled out all of the stops and reached it! Baxter donated an additional $25,000.00 to the DMACC Foundation for reaching their massive goal. As a company we are truly honored to be able to be a part of such a great program for the DMACC students. Congratulations and a big thank you to everyone involved!
